With “Tatami Chips,” Nikosono takes viewers on a photo trip that brings to mind instant photography. Each snapshot catches a brief instant often seen through the artist’s special view and his Polaroïd cameras. This creates a set of layered photos that stir up feelings of the past and make people want to know more. The name of the series also points to a fun relaxed way of taking photos. “Tatami Chips” photos show careful focus on small details and despite their seemingly effortless charm, the photographs reveal a deep appreciation for the art of capturing the ephemeral..

The instant camera’s ability to immediately produce tangible results allows for a more spontaneous and intuitive approach to photography, encouraging the artist to explore new compositions and perspectives with very limited control over the final results.

Nikosono is a huge fan of film photography and loves teaching others all about it in his workshops. His work makes us appreciate the unique beauty and quirks of Polaroid photos.

Nikosono insuffle de temps à autre un nouveau regard à ses propres visions lorsqu’il utilise le médium classique qu’est le Polaroid. Après des débuts marqués par le noir et blanc argentique dans les années 80, il trouve dans l’instantanéité du Polaroid un terrain d’expression libre. Ses images, souvent caractérisées par des couleurs restreintes et des contrastes marqués, invitent à une exploration sensorielle.

Que ce soient des portraits de rue intimes ou des détails très souvent urbains, ses clichés se distinguent par leur authenticité, fruit d’un processus chimique imprévisible. Au-delà de l’utilisation de appareil photographique instantané, Nikosono est un fervent défenseur de la photographie argentique, partageant son savoir-faire avec passion lors d’ateliers.
