French-Australian photographer Nikosono presents a stunning aerial photo series capturing the abstract beauty of Australia’s remote outback. With his innovative approach, he challenges our perception of reality, transforming the arid landscape into a vibrant canvas of color and shape.
Wanting to convey an offbeat yet sophisticated look at the Australian landscape, Nikosono spent years working across the red continent to create a series of photographs that capture its earthy tones : an environment that is nevertheless subject to serious damage caused by humans..

The breathtaking patterns and colors captured in Nikosono’s aerial photographs — lines and shapes created on the outback floor seen from above — resemble paintings painted by the evolution of nature and dream spirit.
Nikosono has exhibited this work at prestigious venues worldwide, including Photo LA (California), the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (Kanazawa, Japan), Photo Art Basel Fair (Switzerland), the Telstra International Fashion Festival, America Bashi Gallery (Tokyo), Brighton PhotoFringe Festival, and Lucy Bell Fine Art Photography Gallery (UK).
This exhibition showcases a vivid and broad array of scenes captured across wider Australia.
These works seek to tell a story not only with scenes of the Great Southern Land, but of the broader story of people and places; and how the Australian landscape has inspired has drawn artists from world over to its doors. This truth is one both pertinent and personal to Nikosono’s own story in Australia.
From the sterling depictions of Dampier to the South Banganup Lake, to the severe portrayals of Karratha and the Pilbara – only to be shown in vivid point of difference with the abundance and wealth of South Hopeland and Success Harbour – these are scenes in every was unforgettable to the eye and soul.
This has provided chance for a wonderful and vivid contrast to emerge in Niko’s work, seeking to depict the Australian landscape via angles and avenues unforeseen prior.
It is a visual experience that reveals
the intriguing perspectives of this environment… sometimes arid… sometimes clothed in the wild mantle
of mangroves.
Originally from France, and having spent the earliest decades of his life among the understated and genteel French landscape, the change and contrast that came with a move to Australia was one that deeply influenced his artistic eye. Leaving beside the Gallic nation of the Northern Hemisphere, Nikosono’s found his camera’s lens now trained upon the huge, grand and bombastic exterior of Australia.
Accordingly, this has offered Nikosono chance to combine a wonderful contrast within his work; of a French background and now an Australian outlook. This has provided chance for a wonderful and vivid contrast to emerge in Nikosono’s work, seeking to depict the Australian landscape via angles and avenues unforeseen prior.
Nikosono is a photographer who has crafted over many years a unique shooting style. He has sought to create within his work a unique expression, and does so with a viewpoint few others seek out. Nikosono’s aerial work is an outlook of Australia that seeks out the soul of its diverse landscapes.
